- Implement typed v2 `session/close` against the existing owner registry. Session capability support now enables explicit close; automatic view release remains detach-only. - Share one in-flight close per owner. Mark closing synchronously, reject new prompt/config publication and reopen while closing, and fence both success and error cleanup by the captured entity ID. - Reject close during unfinished initialization without cancelling initialization or sending a close RPC. Preserve typed close rejections, including their data, and allow an explicit retry. Dropping a close observer does not cancel the operation or release its routing fence prematurely. - Commit successful-close effects and owner retirement after the ordered foreground barrier, before exposing Stop or close completion. Successful close can finish waiting Stop observers without inventing an Idle snapshot, including for unconfirmed activity. Close does not disconnect receipt observation. - Keep the original model alive for the pending receipt IDs captured by that close attempt, independently of view/close-observer lifetime. A rejected close cannot extend this retention to later submissions. Close success and a subsequent reopen do not discard late acceptance or pre-insertion cancellation, mutate a replacement, or hang accepted-but-un-echoed receipts. Retired projections release on settlement or transport loss. Release Notes: - N/A |

Contributing
See CONTRIBUTING.md for ways you can contribute to Zed.
Also... we're hiring! Check out our jobs page for open roles.
Licensing
Zed source code is licensed primarily under GPL-3.0-or-later, with Apache-2.0 components where marked.
License information for third party dependencies must be correctly provided for CI to pass.
We use cargo-about to automatically comply with open source licenses. If CI is failing, check the following:
- Is it showing a
no license specifiederror for a crate you've created? If so, addpublish = falseunder[package]in your crate's Cargo.toml. - Is the error
failed to satisfy license requirementsfor a dependency? If so, first determine what license the project has and whether this system is sufficient to comply with this license's requirements. If you're unsure, ask a lawyer. Once you've verified that this system is acceptable add the license's SPDX identifier to theacceptedarray inscript/licenses/zed-licenses.toml. - Is
cargo-aboutunable to find the license for a dependency? If so, add a clarification field at the end ofscript/licenses/zed-licenses.toml, as specified in the cargo-about book.
