* feat(desktop): one-click updates through electron-updater on the update-feeds release
* feat(tray): signed one-click updates through tauri-plugin-updater; feed publishing and release docs
* ci(tray): build without the updater key until it is configured
* chore(windows): set the tray updater public key
* ci(windows): skip updater signing in the release build smoke
* ci(windows): build without updater artifacts when no signing key is available
* ci(windows): turn off updater artifacts through TAURI_CONFIG, not CLI flags pwsh mangles
* ci(windows): run tauri build under bash so --no-sign reaches the CLI (pwsh drops the -- separator)
* refactor(app): move the bridge handlers out of main.ts
createBridgeHandlers and the argv builders now live in
app/electron/bridge-handlers.ts with no electron import, so a host other
than Electron can run the same channel to argv mapping. main.ts keeps its
default deps and re-exports, so the desktop app and its tests are unchanged.
Two additive hooks for that host: scopeProjectFilter narrows the saved
project filter before it becomes argv, and CODEBURN_NODE_BIN runs the
bundled CLI with a named Node instead of Electron-as-Node.
* feat(app): let the renderer run inside an editor
The bridge can now say it is the VS Code host. When it does, the chord
shortcuts and their hints step aside for the editor's own, Settings hands
theme, language, default period and refresh to the editor's settings,
the top bar shows a this workspace / all projects switch, and the editor
can send a section, a period or a refresh to an open dashboard.
formatResetTime moves to lib/format.ts so the status bar and the summary
use the Plans wording. New strings are in all six locales. Nothing
changes in the desktop app.
* feat(app): build the renderer for VS Code webviews
app/vite.vscode.config.ts builds two webview entries into
vscode/dist/webview: the whole dashboard and the activity bar summary.
renderer/vscode/bridge.ts implements window.codeburn over postMessage,
forwarding only the channels in channels.ts; telemetry, update checks and
the desktop companions are answered in the webview. localStorage is
prefixed per scope so one workspace's cached views never paint in
another's, and the theme follows the editor's light, dark and high
contrast kinds through its --vscode-* tokens.
* feat(vscode): CodeBurn extension for VS Code and its forks
A status bar item with today's spend (~ when estimated) and a tooltip
with the week, the month, this workspace, the top model and plan quotas;
an activity bar summary; the desktop dashboard in an editor tab, scoped
to the open workspace; eight commands and eight settings.
The bundled CLI runs as the desktop's resident serve child through the
shared client. Current VS Code, Cursor and Antigravity ship Node 24, so
it runs on the editor's own Node; an older editor gets a system Node
22.13+ or a degraded run that says what it cannot read. A workspace
folder maps to a rooted --project the way the CLI keys sessions,
worktrees folding into their main repository.
npm run package:vscode builds the .vsix. Unit tests cover the bridge
host, status bar formatting, workspace mapping, settings and runtime
choice; test:smoke drives a real VS Code against a fixture home.
* ci, docs: build, test and package the VS Code extension
A vscode job typechecks, unit tests, packages the .vsix, runs the smoke
test in VS Code under xvfb and uploads the .vsix. docs/vscode.md covers
the architecture, the measured editor runtimes and how to test.
* fix(vscode): keep the currency setting out of workspace settings
Changing codeburn.currency runs the CLI's own currency command, which
every CodeBurn app shares, so a repository's .vscode/settings.json must
not be able to set it: the setting is application scoped now.
The smoke test also checks that the dashboard's renderer booted inside
the webview and called the host, not only that its tab opened.
* feat(vscode): version the extension 1.0.0, apart from the CLI
The extension carried the CLI's 0.9.25. It now has its own version,
1.0.0. The host passes it to the webview, and the dashboard's nav
footer, About dialog and Settings show it there instead of the
renderer's package version; Settings adds "Bundled CLI 0.9.25" beneath
it. The desktop app is unchanged. Nothing in the build or packaging
writes the extension's version from the CLI.
* fix(vscode): run the smoke test in Cursor, keep the demo shim out
Cursor 3 opens its Agents window on a fresh profile, which starts no
extension host, so the smoke run against Cursor.app hung; it now passes
--classic for Cursor. The webview build no longer copies
renderer/public/demo-shim.js, a browser demo harness, into the .vsix.
* feat(vscode): a quiet star line in the summary, and a Star on GitHub command
From the third day of use, the activity bar summary ends with the
desktop's "Enjoying CodeBurn? Star us on GitHub" line, in the same six
languages, with a close button. Clicking it or closing it hides it for
good (kept in the extension's globalState). It is never a notification.
The new "CodeBurn: Star on GitHub" command opens the repository page.
No tracking parameters, no telemetry.
* docs(vscode): marketplace screenshots in the README
Five screenshots of the extension on real data (Overview in dark and
light, the why it cost view, the status bar hover and the activity bar
summary), 1600 px wide, each with a one-line caption. They live in
vscode/media/screenshots, stay out of the .vsix, and the package script
points vsce at the raw GitHub URLs on main.
* fix(vscode): review fixes for settings trust, serve lifecycle and the tooltip
- codeburn.provider and codeburn.quotaProviders are application scoped,
like currency, so a repository's settings cannot turn quota requests
back on, even in Restricted Mode.
- deactivate removes the serve pid file once the child is stopped, and
changing codeburn.nodePath restarts the serve child on the new Node.
- codeburn.currency is applied at startup when the CLI's currency
differs, not only when the setting changes.
- The dashboard's Settings no longer shows per-plan quota switches in the
editor, where the editor setting rewrites them on every boot; it points
to the editor settings instead.
- Workspace and model names are escaped in the status bar tooltip.
- The README lists the dashboard actions that reach the network.
- The staged CLI drops its dependencies' tests and TypeScript sources
(466 files, 9.9 MB to 9.2 MB).
* feat: Command Code support
Reads the cmd CLI's session transcripts at
~/.commandcode/projects/<slug>/<id>.jsonl (CODEBURN_COMMANDCODE_DIR moves
the root). Checkpoint and prompt sidecars are skipped.
usage.inputTokens includes cacheReadTokens, so fresh input is
inputTokens - cacheReadTokens. The recorded costUsd is kept per call
(costFromBilling); a call without one is priced from tokens and marked
estimated. Forks copy parent message ids into a new file, so calls dedupe
by message id across sessions.
Desktop: Electron sandbox read path, macOS and Windows change watchers,
Windows tab colour. No quota adapter.
* fix(command-code): dedupe on meta.messageId, not the 8-hex line id
The top-level id is randomUUID().slice(0, 8) and only unique within one
file, so calls from unrelated sessions could collide and vanish.
meta.messageId is a full uuid that survives forks. Fixture ids now use
the real 8-hex shape.
* test(command-code): check sidecar skipping by file name, not a posix path
* feat: Amp support - read the local thread mirror (#1572)
Amp (Sourcegraph's coding agent) mirrors every thread it serves as one
JSON document per thread at ~/.local/share/amp/threads/ (AMP_DATA_DIR
honored, comma-separated). Each file is { id, messages,
usageLedger?{events} }; the ledger's events are the per-request record
(tokens.input/output, cache tokens joined from the billed message
through toMessageId -> messages[].messageId), with a per-assistant-
message usage fallback for threads without a ledger and a total-only
record billing as output.
Amp bills a subscription and records no charged dollars, so every call
is priced from the underlying model's token rates and marked
costIsEstimated; the recorded credits field is ignored (no published
per-credit dollar rate). Thread files carry no cwd, so sessions group
under the provider name. Registered eager; parse version
usage-ledger-v1; no artwork yet (mono-initial fallback, like Codebuff).
Surfaces: CLI registry + doctor probe roots, Electron sandbox read
paths + menubar catalog (Amp after Cursor, matching the Swift order),
Windows tray tab color + usage_guard root, GNOME prefs dropdown, macOS
ProviderConnectionCatalog, docs/providers/amp.md, README tool list,
CHANGELOG.
* fix: address Amp provider review feedback
* feat(windows): configure the menu bar and Capacity Dock as a Plugins card
Windows now configures its tray companion from a card on the Plugins page, the
same place macOS does, instead of two switches in the sidebar corner.
- WindowsCompanionCard mirrors the macOS MenuBarCard: Install/Reinstall,
Update, Open (show the tray popover), Settings (opens the desktop Menu bar
settings pane), Quit (stop without uninstalling), Uninstall, plus the
Capacity Dock toggle, a Running dot, the version, and an info popup.
- MenubarCompanion.status() now reports installed/running/version/outdated/
canInstall, and new discrete install/open/quit/uninstall actions back the
card. uninstall only forgets the tray once the CLI removal succeeds, and a
cancelled elevation prompt is treated as a no-op rather than a failure.
- isNewerVersion sorts a dev build below any release, so a staged release still
lights Update and a dev build never does.
- codeburn menubar --uninstall reads the product code from the install marker
or the uninstall registry and runs msiexec /x.
- Remove the bespoke sidebar CompanionSwitches and their dead CSS.
- A dev-only CODEBURN_MENUBAR_RESOURCES override lets the tray install run
without packaging; the CLI still validates the staged path in full.
* feat(desktop): fold the Capacity Dock settings into the Menu bar pane
One tray rail entry instead of two: MenuBarPane and CapacityDockPane render
together in the Menu bar pane with a clear gap between the two cards, so the
card's Settings button opens both. Drops the now-unreachable 'dock' pane value.
* fix(desktop): stop the Spend cost-flow Sankey from re-rendering forever
The label-fit effect measured the already-truncated text, so a capped label
read as short, un-capped, overflowed the cap, and re-capped without end
(Maximum update depth exceeded). It now estimates each label from its full
name via data-name, and caps only tighten per layout, so the measure, cap and
remeasure cycle is guaranteed to settle instead of oscillating.
* feat(desktop): bundle Inter and JetBrains Mono for one UI on every OS
The app used each platform's system font (SF Pro on macOS, Segoe UI on
Windows), so the two looked different. Bundle Inter for text and JetBrains
Mono for figures and lead the --sans and --mono stacks with them, keeping the
per-locale CJK fallbacks, so Windows and macOS render the same faces.
* desktop: gate tray installed state on support; drop strings and channels the sidebar switches left behind
The splash video re-encoded in the render-churn change had lost its alpha plane, so the flame played over the grey the artwork carries under its transparent pixels. Re-encoding with alpha kept is larger than the original, so the original file is restored with transparent corners verified frame by frame. The app icon was one 1024 px PNG downsampled to all ten sizes, which collapses the dark textured flame into a brown square below 64 px; the icon set is now built by hand with a solid flame at the small sizes and the master art from 128 px up, so the Dock icon is unchanged.
7-Zip compresses ARM64 executables with its ARM64 branch filter by
default. The decoder inside the NSIS installer predates that filter, so
extraction dropped every .exe and .dll while the data files landed, and
the installer exited zero with no program in the directory. A new
package:win:arm64 script pins the BCJ filter through the electron-builder
override, and the distribution notes say why.
stage-menubar.mjs is stage-cli.mjs for the Tauri tray app: it copies rather than
downloads, taking the local `cargo tauri build` output by default and whatever
CI fetched with --from. The two routes need different things staged, so it has
two shapes. The NSIS build gets the .msi and its .sha256, computing the digest
when a local build has none, so the installer's verification means the same
thing there as it does for a release. The Store build gets the executable, since
a packaged app cannot run msiexec at all.
build/menubar rides into both packages as win.extraResources. Unlike the CLI it
carries no node_modules, so electron-builder's production-dependency filter has
nothing to strip and the afterPack hook is not needed.
installer.nsh removes the tray app on uninstall only when the marker credits
this app with installing it, which is what keeps a manual `codeburn menubar`
install alive through a desktop uninstall. PowerShell reads the marker and pulls
the product code out of the uninstall string, because NSIS has no JSON and the
alternative was hand-parsing one in a macro.
appx-extensions.xml declares the tray app's launch at login as the package's own
windows.startupTask, so it appears in Settings > Apps > Startup like anything
else the Store installed. No Run value is written on that route.
Snap Store review (forum topic 52615) asked for both: the credential
file is sensitive and only powers the optional quota tile, so it moves
to its own claude-quota-credentials plug with no auto-connect; the
cline parser reads only ~/.cline/data/tasks/<id> transcripts, so the
grant names that directory instead of the whole data root.
Bump all surfaces to 0.9.23 together (CLI, desktop app, Windows menubar +
Tauri/Cargo, Flatpak, README download links) and regenerate the lockfile
version fields. Move the Unreleased changelog into a dated 0.9.23 section
covering the Capacity Dock, OMP/Grok pricing fix, CB-3/CB-4 sync, and the
desktop/TUI/menubar reliability fixes. Credit CodexBar (prior art) in the
README acknowledgements and third-party notices.
Version 0.9.21 across CLI, desktop app, and Windows menubar; refreshed
LiteLLM pricing snapshot and fallback (catches the 2026-08-24 OpenAI
GPT-5.6 cut and DeepSeek v4 repricing mid-rollout, #1134 tracks
re-tightening); CHANGELOG stamped for 0.9.21; README release links to
0.9.21. Snapshot-pinned model tests updated to current catalog truth.
The ported declaration was written against main as of c9e6e2ec. Main has since
added dsh and carries five entries that commit never saw, all of them still bare
tool roots, so the port dropped them rather than reintroduce what the store
rejected. Each is restored at the path its provider opens:
.dsh/sessions dsh.ts reads <DSH_HOME>/sessions only
.kiro/sessions CLI store at sessions/cli, v2 IDE store
at sessions/<hash> — siblings
.quickwork/{profiles.json,sessions,metrics}
profiles.json names the profile bases;
the legacy layout is sessions/sessions.db
plus metrics/
.config/Claude/local-agent-mode-sessions
Claude Desktop's local-agent-mode store
.config/Open Design/{runs,data/runs,namespaces}
the three discovery roots open-design.ts
probes under its data dir
.lingtai and .lingtai-tui stay dropped. A LingTai ledger lives at
.lingtai/<agent>/logs/token_ledger.jsonl, and personal-files has no wildcard for
the agent segment; .lingtai-tui only exists to enumerate project homes that could
not be read anyway. Goose is narrowed to .local/share/goose/sessions, which holds
the only file it opens.
Four entries stay whole roots because the provider reads a file sitting directly
in the root: .config/github-copilot (JetBrains stores nest under a variable
<ide>/<kind>/<storeId>) and .local/share/{opencode,crush,kilo}. The new
app/scripts/snap-grants.test.ts asserts every other entry is at least one level
below its tool root, so a bare root cannot come back unnoticed.
Snap Store review found the declaration requested each tool's entire root
directory. Those roots hold configuration and, in several cases, credentials,
and personal-files read is recursive, so the request granted read of every AI
tool's credential store.
Every path is now the subdirectory the provider actually opens: .claude/projects,
.codex/sessions, .cline/data, .vibe/logs/session, .hermes/profiles, .mux/sessions
and so on; two are single files (.forge/.forge.db, .zcode/cli/db/db.sqlite). The
editor entries name only the extension folders that hold transcripts rather than
the editor's whole configuration. No bare tool root remains.
One credential file is requested openly instead of implicitly: .claude/.credentials.json,
read-only, used to call Anthropic's usage endpoint for the live plan gauge.
Codex's equivalent needs read-write on the Codex CLI's auth.json to rotate the
token, so neither that file nor a Codex root is declared and the Codex live
gauge is disabled under $SNAP. Codex usage and cost analytics are unaffected;
they come from the session rollouts.
Also declares five providers that were missing entirely and would have shown no
data under the snap: opencode, crush, goose, kilo, kimi-code. Drops .lingtai,
whose per-agent directory sits above the log folder and cannot be expressed
without wildcards.
Ports 4fe760aafe0492a674476c1ca64bf0dbdc673dde onto current main; the entries
main gained since that commit are reconciled separately.
Security audit follow-ups on the DeepSeek Harness provider.
- **Decompression bomb.** Every zstd frame was decoded with no output bound, so
a 16 KB crafted log expanded to ~916 MB of RSS (a 65 KB one declares 2 GB).
Each frame now decodes under a 64 MB per-call cap, and the caps chain into a
running per-file budget of MAX_SESSION_FILE_BYTES: a frame is given only the
bytes the file has left, so node throws ERR_BUFFER_TOO_LARGE without
allocating past the cap. The throw propagates out of the existing skip path,
which discards the whole file rather than counting the frames read before the
bomb, so a crafted tail cannot poison a partial total. The discovery header
read takes the same per-frame cap. Measured on a 65 KB / 2 GB bomb: 916 MB
-> 67 MB peak, zero calls emitted, one notice.
Lines are still materialized eagerly; the byte budget bounds that, and making
the read lazy would change readEventLines' contract for no further bound.
- **Usage type confusion.** Token fields were read with `?? 0` and never
type-checked, so a string or array inputTokens flowed into the global totals
and the persisted cache, where `0 + [1, 2]` becomes "01,2". They now go
through numberOrZero (copilot.ts semantics: finite, positive, else 0).
All-zero calls are still skipped.
- **Snap over-scope.** The personal-files read entry is `$HOME/.dsh/sessions`
rather than all of `$HOME/.dsh`; the provider reads nothing else.
- **Third-party notice.** scanZstdFrames is transcribed from
@deepseek-ai/dsh-session-persistence-jsonl. The published npm package is
BSD-3-Clause (Copyright (c) 2026, DeepSeek) while the monorepo source
declares MIT for the same package; THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md reproduces the
stricter of the two and ships via package.json `files`.
docs/providers/NEW_PROVIDER.md items the PR had not reached yet, plus the two
surfaces that are functional rather than cosmetic:
- docs/providers/dsh.md and its row in the provider index, documenting the
storage layout, the JSONL-backend-only scope (the opt-in SQLite persistence
backend is not read), and that DSH is a developer preview whose format
version 0 implies no compatibility.
- CHANGELOG entry under Unreleased.
- README provider count 40 -> 41 and a data-locations row.
- app/package.json: $HOME/.dsh in the snap personal-files allowlist, without
which the Linux snap build cannot read DSH sessions at all.
- UsageDataChangeGuard: the DSH sessions root, without which the menubar never
notices a new session and does not refresh.
- Bumps the dsh parse version, since the parser's attribution changed.
Classic has no fitting store category (per forum feedback) and strict is
electron-builder's well-supported path. One personal-files plug grants
read-only access to the dot-directories the supported tools write session
logs into; the app's own config and cache stay in the snap's private area.
- electron-builder snap target (classic confinement) with package:snap script
- build-snap.yml: builds on ubuntu, uploads artifact, optional store publish
gated on workflow_dispatch input + SNAPCRAFT_STORE_CREDENTIALS secret
- app/flathub: manifest repacking the released deb, desktop file, AppStream
metainfo, and submission runbook
0.9.18 was packaged from the pre-fix commit (364eed4) before the final
nine commits landed; npm versions are immutable, so the corrected
release ships as 0.9.19 everywhere. The changelog entry carries over
with a supersede note.

Patch release: Windows bundled-CLI fix (was not-found on 100% of
Windows), enriched cli_error telemetry, and the unified solid-flame
brand. CLI/menubar stay 0.9.16 (no changes needing an npm/menubar
republish; the desktop bundles current main's CLI).
The AppImage-only Linux build hit users with a no-application-installed
error on double-click, because AppImages do not self-register and need
chmod plus libfuse2 on newer distros. Add deb and rpm electron-builder
targets so Linux users get a native install that lands in the app menu
with no manual steps; the deb ships a .desktop entry for exactly that.
README hero grid now lists Debian/.deb, Fedora/.rpm, and AppImage
alongside the macOS and Windows buttons, and the desktop release notes
explain the deb/rpm path plus the AppImage FUSE requirement.
P0: an interrupted cold hydration left partial caches that the
emptiness check read as warm — the daily backfill froze (missing older
days) while session parsing healed gradually (drifting totals),
poisoning every surface sharing the cache. Both caches now carry an
explicit complete marker: partial resumes cold under the hydration
lock; unmarked caches self-heal with one re-hydration. Regression test
seeds the exact frozen artifact and asserts bit-for-bit convergence
with a never-interrupted run.
- splash indexing reveals only on genuinely cold scans (explicit cold
flag in the progress protocol), never on warm incremental re-parses
- uncached filter switches clear to skeleton instead of showing the
previous filter's numbers; cached switches paint same-commit;
background prefetch warms every detected provider after idle
- build stamp (git sha + date) in splash and About ends build ambiguity
- payload parity test: identical payloads on identical cache, and
payload totals equal the CLI report path
- Sessions empty state keeps the provider filter row; zero savings
line hidden; TCC usage-description strings + Full Disk Access docs
- warm profile documented: optimize scan ~1.47s dominant (safe
refactor deferred), parse ~1s, aggregation ~30ms
Root 1848, app 320, typechecks clean.
The packaged app resolved whatever codeburn was on PATH — for real
users the published npm release, which predates every JSON surface the
app calls. The app now ships its own CLI copy under resources/cli
(staged production node_modules tree; tsup output is not
self-contained) and spawns it with Electron's own binary via
ELECTRON_RUN_AS_NODE. No install prerequisite remains.
- resolution order: CODEBURN_BIN, dev repo CLI, bundled, persisted
path, PATH search
- launch.js shim strips the extra argv element commander mis-slices
under packaged Electron-as-node (process.versions.electron is set),
which reproduced the 'too many arguments' class of error
- afterPack hook copies the staged tree (extraResources runs
node_modules through the production-dep filter and ships it empty);
lands before signing, signature verified intact
- packaging always restages from src via root build:cli (tsup only,
no network); ~12MB compressed per artifact
Verified on the built app: Electron-as-node CLI emits current JSON
(providerDetails, currency), and a minimal-PATH GUI launch spawns the
bundled CLI with zero external dependencies. 290/290.
Cross-built from macOS alongside the existing mac config: nsis x64
(oneClick false, clean CodeBurn-Setup-<version>.exe artifact name) and
AppImage x64. DISTRIBUTION.md covers the new build commands, the
unsigned-build first-run steps per platform, and the desktop-v<version>
release tag convention the website pins.
electron-builder config with ad-hoc signing (identity "-", not null,
which skips signing and breaks Apple Silicon), dmg+zip for arm64 and

the build, verification, the Gatekeeper first-open steps for
unnotarized builds, and the later paid-notarization upgrade path.
CodeBurn wordmark on the splash now uses --accent (matching the
website/sidebar brand treatment) with the app version (v0.1.0, from
package.json at build time) in muted small text below. App version
bumped 0.0.0 -> 0.1.0.
253/253, build green.
- one gate (motionEnabled): off under reduced-motion, missing matchMedia,

instead of re-animating
- first-load skeleton shimmer replaces bare scanning text (kept sr-only
for screen readers); slide-in toast host for Settings/export feedback
(validation errors stay inline); CSS hover-lift + press micro-

`npm run dev` hung: Vite bound to [::1]:5173 (IPv6) while `wait-on tcp:127.0.0.1:5173`
polled IPv4 — never satisfied, so Electron never launched. Pin Vite host to 127.0.0.1
and point Electron's VITE_DEV_SERVER_URL at 127.0.0.1 too; all three now agree on IPv4.
Caught by the live-run smoke (the one thing the no-display build env couldn't verify).
